Seminal indie label Sub Pop is once again accepting applications for its Loser Scholarships, which will be given to three students involved and interested in music or the creative arts.
The three scholarships for $ 3,000, $ 5,000 and $ 7,000 are available to Washington and Oregon residents who are graduating high school seniors about to enroll full-time at an accredited university or college.
If you fit those criteria and want to be one of the lucky Losers, you can submit an essay no longer than one page answering one or more of these four prompts:
“What are you doing in the arts/music field in your community?”
“How and why did you become interested in artistic outlets?”
“How would this scholarship money help you to progress in your chosen field?”
“What are your influences and who inspires you? Who are some of your favorite bands or artists?”
Sub Pop also urges applicants to submit digital links or hard copies of their artwork or music along with their essay, noting that nobody has ever won the scholarship with just an essay (and don’t send your only copy of a piece, because you won’t get it back!).
Be sure to get your applications in by May 8th. This years, “losers” will be announced on May 22nd. You can send in digital applications to scholarship@subpop.com, and mail physical applications to:
